Fathom

What is fathom?

As we mentioned before, the human body was the base from which length units were derived. Fathom is one of these units. For a large man holding his arms fully extended, the distance from the middle fingertip of one hand to the middle fingertip of the other hand express one fathom.

For more specification, one fathom equals 6 feet or nearly 1.83 meter. The term “fathom” was derived from the old English “faedm” which means outstretched arms.  Fathom is used mainly in water depth measurement.
